What is AMOG’ing? (aka AMOGGIN AMOG-ing)

AMOG's steal your women!  Spot the AMOG

AMOG stands for Alpha Male Other Guy.

I received a message on Facebook the other day asking me to explain exactly what this whole Amogging thing is about, so I figured I’d share it as the first post in the ASK JDOG discussion group.

It is an often misinterpreted concept that has caused many problems, and possibly even actual fights.

Originally it was a term used to refer to the situation when another guy would come along, and steal the attention away from the girl (or group of people) that you were talking to.

When meeting women in a bar or club many situations will arise whereby another guy will come along, and either belittle you in front of the group, or actually use physical intimidation to get you to leave.

This will be in the form of verbal put downs and sarcastic comments, or by putting his arm over your shoulder, and physically moving you out the way, or turning his back on you locking YOU out of the group… or a combination of such things. All the while he will be making a play for the girl you were just happily talking to.

In order to regain your value in the group, and to gracefully influence the other guy to leave.. AMOG-ing was born. This involved turning the tables on the other Alpha Male. Actually, here’s a problem right off the bat, the term itself implies that you yourself are in fact an Alpha Male.. and most of the time the guys who are trying to use AMOG-ing tactics are not actually alpha males themselves. Therefore they attempt to fluff themselves up, mask their insecurities, and act tough and aggressive or confrontational. Wrong!

Another mistake is to view virtually every other male in the room as an AMOG. This perception causing lots of trouble, as guys will shit talk for unnecessary one-upmanship. I have also witnessed so called PUA’s going out at night with the sole purpose of PRACTICING AMOGGING?? Get an f-ing clue guys!

Not all other guys are AMOG’s, in fact there is a difference from a guy joining the group where he actually knows, and is a friend of the girl(s) you are talking to… compared to some random guy coming over to hit on her. I discuss this when talking about dealing with Social Interruptions.

So in a nutshell befriend first, and use subtle witty comments to win back the frame if the guy is being a jerk. If he puts his arm around your shoulder.. you can counter by putting your arm over his, and then saying something like, “this is a cool guy” before he has the chance to say anything.. then turn back to the group, drop your old conversational topic, and start a new one.

If he has already started to get the attention of the group then you have to be more interesting, and more high energy.. Generally this is not as difficult as it sounds, and most guys will lose interest and leave.

If the people have already bonded with you and really enjoy your company then you could collectively just ignore the guy, or you could simply lead your girl away by the hand.

I have had some very aggressive dudes invade my social interactions, but most of the time they left non-aggressively. I have had the occasional situation where the guy was just so crazy hyper and quick witted that even I couldn’t keep up (alcohol is not just a social lubricant.. it limits your communication skills), and I found those guys pretty funny… Drinking alcohol while out will make you less capable of maintaining social control., among other things.

There are many ways to counter interruptions as I said. This post should clarify the term for many people, and for more examples I’m sure you can add to this conversation.

Cheers.. J!

Yeah, if played correctly you (speaking to the generally unbeknownst reader) will not run into too many “so called” AMOGS that create much of a problem for you. Most of mine (which would generally incorrectly be identified as AMOGS to most new “PUAs”) that I encounter seem to be drunk and / or jealous “Beta” males who are easily dispatched. However, as you said J-Dog there are some quick witted ones as well, and I have had that happen on occasions! Informative and helpful as always man.

last night a girl opened me (she had been a customer in my store before and had a comment) and i had no intention of picking her up, it was strictly professional curiosity. but her friend or date or whatever started doing hard amog type behavior ie commenting on my hair, dissing my pink shoes, so i said “do not try to mentally punk me down, because you cannot keep up with me and i will make you look like a fool”. It was said firmly, straight forward, hard eye contact and a half cocky smile. It was followed immediately with an apology. the point? alpha is confident, direct, and knows where he stands. that and there is no way in hell i’m going to be punked down by a guy in a sonic drive in shirt haha

What People Are Saying

The tips and insights you provide go far beyond pickup and have helped me improve every aspect of my life thus far! /// James, Tacoma, WA

Inspiration: I have mentioned this before, but I cannot help but reiterate how inspirational it is to know J Dog.

I only got to see him do a couple of sets, but the ones I saw were throwing IOIs like mad! And seeing him tool an aggressive AMOG was absolutely hilarious. He has the presence of a rock star. You feel cool just being near him.

JDog trained and coached me at Mystery’s Chicago Bootcamp. Among the instructors, most of whom I interacted with and went in field with, he was the most accessible and personal, not to mention he was the only one who completely volunteered without profit.

Very personal in training: Justin trained us in a group on story-telling. Each of us got to tell our drafts, then he’ll help edit it, and then each gets to deliver it again. I got two stories out of the session, and more importantly, I understand the principles of storytelling deeply.

Over all, among all the people at the bootcamp, both my wingman and I find the most connection with J-Dog. He is a star, but first, he is your friend. That’s what we felt after the three days.

Intellectual: Most instructors, even the big stars, state facts and use sciences without proper justification. In some way it makes sarging a semi-religion rather than a science, and most people cannot fully believe something until they understand it deeply. J-Dog instead tells us the deep science behinds the routines, the structure, and gives us a long list of books to read. These will be amazing for comfort building. Thank you for treating us like intelligent students, J-Dog.

Humble: very few successful people and PUAs are as humble as Justin. He makes you feel at an equal level when you interact with him

I found that I was able to really identify with JDog. He was the polar opposite of Matador, which made for a great Workshop. They were like Gin & Tonic.

JDog’s game is all charisma.

The students responded well to JDog. This was evident when Matador left the room and handed JDog the reigns to teach the group. Almost immediately the guys starting asking JDog questions.

When I asked JDog about where he was from, he told me ‘Arizona’ and that he had purchased his English accent from eBay. He continued to tell me that he really wanted the French accent, but was outbid at the last moment and had to settle for the English. This is who JDog is, a likeable, disarming man with a great sense of style and wicked game.

Students worked very well with JDog one-on-one. If JDog had been the only instructor at the Workshop, I still would have paid the money and felt as though I was undercharged for what I received.
