What is AMOG’ing? (aka AMOGGIN AMOG-ing)

AMOG stands for Alpha Male Other Guy.
I received a message on Facebook the other day asking me to explain exactly what this whole Amogging thing is about, so I figured I’d share it as the first post in the ASK JDOG discussion group.
It is an often misinterpreted concept that has caused many problems, and possibly even actual fights.
Originally it was a term used to refer to the situation when another guy would come along, and steal the attention away from the girl (or group of people) that you were talking to.
When meeting women in a bar or club many situations will arise whereby another guy will come along, and either belittle you in front of the group, or actually use physical intimidation to get you to leave.
This will be in the form of verbal put downs and sarcastic comments, or by putting his arm over your shoulder, and physically moving you out the way, or turning his back on you locking YOU out of the group… or a combination of such things. All the while he will be making a play for the girl you were just happily talking to.
In order to regain your value in the group, and to gracefully influence the other guy to leave.. AMOG-ing was born. This involved turning the tables on the other Alpha Male. Actually, here’s a problem right off the bat, the term itself implies that you yourself are in fact an Alpha Male.. and most of the time the guys who are trying to use AMOG-ing tactics are not actually alpha males themselves. Therefore they attempt to fluff themselves up, mask their insecurities, and act tough and aggressive or confrontational. Wrong!
Another mistake is to view virtually every other male in the room as an AMOG. This perception causing lots of trouble, as guys will shit talk for unnecessary one-upmanship. I have also witnessed so called PUA’s going out at night with the sole purpose of PRACTICING AMOGGING?? Get an f-ing clue guys!
Not all other guys are AMOG’s, in fact there is a difference from a guy joining the group where he actually knows, and is a friend of the girl(s) you are talking to… compared to some random guy coming over to hit on her. I discuss this when talking about dealing with Social Interruptions.
So in a nutshell befriend first, and use subtle witty comments to win back the frame if the guy is being a jerk. If he puts his arm around your shoulder.. you can counter by putting your arm over his, and then saying something like, “this is a cool guy” before he has the chance to say anything.. then turn back to the group, drop your old conversational topic, and start a new one.
If he has already started to get the attention of the group then you have to be more interesting, and more high energy.. Generally this is not as difficult as it sounds, and most guys will lose interest and leave.
If the people have already bonded with you and really enjoy your company then you could collectively just ignore the guy, or you could simply lead your girl away by the hand.
I have had some very aggressive dudes invade my social interactions, but most of the time they left non-aggressively. I have had the occasional situation where the guy was just so crazy hyper and quick witted that even I couldn’t keep up (alcohol is not just a social lubricant.. it limits your communication skills), and I found those guys pretty funny… Drinking alcohol while out will make you less capable of maintaining social control., among other things.
There are many ways to counter interruptions as I said. This post should clarify the term for many people, and for more examples I’m sure you can add to this conversation.
Cheers.. J!
