I think J-Dog brings up a valuable point here with this post; this seems like the elusive obvious, but the mechanism behind the words is what causes the interaction to occur. When I hear this opinion opener, I think many people believe that pick-up routines are magic spells, just recite the incantation and something will happen.

Likewise with the memetic qualities of routines; it's easy to duplicate the parts of game, but understanding how those parts act in a holistic fashion is a more complex task. So, unless people start gaining social skills to modify their routines, or create new routines, then I think the memes will die off as soon as people recognize them.

Or, rather, as one of the above writers submitted, evolve into:
"Hey, check out this meme."
"I recognize that meme!"

How do new routines and patterns arise, anyway? What system is generating this material? Is it a random process? I know pick-up is a lot like sales data; it's hard to analyze, so success rates are largely colloquial - but reproduction rates of routine memes can be counted in web search keywords.

If you're predicting some PUA Omega Point where every adult male in Western society has par-level seduction skills...J-Dog is a prescient genius!

There's a deeper point here, too: is pick-up a zero-sum game? Are females the enemy?

I found myself seeing the same thing. "The Pick-up Artist" has now had 2 seasons and it aired on VH1, a popular station for young America. I'm certain that people from every corner of this county have seen atleast some of it. Even more so, I certain that half of the audience, or atleast a third, are women. That said, it's definitely risky to use the same old techniques that people even outside the community are familar with. It's like a football coach running the same play over and over again and the other side knowing this. Obviously the play is going to be halted most of the time, if not all the time.

This material was insightful and useful. Thanks to J-Dog for providing us with quality material, instead of following the design of many other PUA website (*cough* venusianarts.com *cough*) and just sending us useless spam mail about their new products or $5000 bootcamps. Keep on the righteous path J-Dog, you helping a lot of people.

I've been on guys for the longest time about getting rid of these openers and routine stacks. I always get the same question "what do I say or do then?"

My answer: "Who fucking cares!??! Just talk!"

Then I SHOW them how a simple "You're absolutely adorable!" goes further than their normal openers (some guys are still using the David Bowie Opinion Opener).

I thought that since I lived in a small town I could get away with opinion openers. Boy was I wrong! I opened a 7 set, and my target immediately said, "are you one of those pickup artists? Like the ones on tv"? LOL

I am really glad that you are doing this JDOG. =)

Kinetic - start by catching the 2 seasons of The PUA (yes, they're all online for free). I haven't seen them on Hulu yet, but they are on Fancast. Practically any opener there would be considered played-out. But if you want to use the opener, "Hey, ladies, what's this from...'Nobody puts Baby in a corner.'" you're free to do so, lol.

This was really useful. It would be great if you could occasionally put us on to openers/routines/crack that are getting played out like this. At this point, getting called out on this type of shit is like, a nightmare, and I'm sure a lot of other guys feel the same.
