Here’s where to go to discover how to train your dog the right way….

Funny, I'd been thinking about trying out a “Hey, I was thinking of buying a dog, what do you think's a good breed?” opener for a while now, and your post just reminded me. Although I suspect with a lot of girls that opener could hit a dead end pretty quick, as maybe giving the girl too much to think about is in danger of not making her not think about it at all, and she'll immediately shutdown and say “sorry, I don't know,” leading to a pretty quick FAIL – although I could be wrong on that, as I'm still learning. I don't know, what do you think, is it better not to make your opinion opener not too open that it requires too much thought from the target? Is it better to go for a “A” or “B” type question?

I guess she'd almost certainly also has to like dogs, else I'll hit another dead end. But your post got me thinking about it more, and I came up with what I think should be a more entertaining variant “Hey, I was thinking of buying a dog. Which do you think would suit me best, a labrador or a poodle?” which hopefully should make her chuckle. My thinking though, is, is that if you add humour, you're making the opener more direct? You're telling her you want to make her laugh, so she knows it's just not a curious question, you have more of an agenda going on, so it's harder to “fly under the radar,” maybe? Although I guess it's possible she might think you're still asking a serious question, but you're a bit on the quirky side.

I strongly suspect if I use this opener, 90% of girls will say “poodle” – least the ones with an ounce of fun in them should , to which I guess I could reply “Are you sure? You don't think it would make me look a bit gay?” Where it would go from there, I don't know. Probably “Are you/aren't you gay?” to which I could reply “Only on Thursdays, I'm straight as they come any other day” maybe? ;P I guess she doesn't even have to like dogs for that variant either, as anyone with half a brain can relate to a the image of a poodle and what a guy walking one conjures up.

I don't know, what do you reckon, am I on the right track?
